Bolton called his “roughly 150 tweets” on the situation in Venezuela a “new experiment in public diplomacy [JB emphasis],” adding that most of his tweets also come out in Spanish because “we want to reach a Latin American audience in particular.”
“We are trying to rally support for the peaceful transition of power from Maduro to Juan Guaido, whom we recognize as president,” said Bolton. “Our objective is to have Juan Guaido become the interim president so that we can get new presidential elections.” ...

Donald Trump, as president, has made a habit of comingling personal and governmental business to his benefit, but Trump’s tweet Saturday morning about his golf club in Scotland is perhaps the most explicit example of Trump using his office as a tool of self-promotion and personal gain.
Trump has never been much for ethics and the GOP has given the president carte blanche to do as he pleases, no matter the appearance of impropriety. The Aberdeen course that Trump promo’d was Trump’s first course in Europe, but has failed to take off like the Trump Organization had anticipated when buying the course in 2006. Trump promised the club would create as many as 6,000 jobs in the community. The reality, as is often the case with Trump, has been much less rosy, and the course has lost money each ..

OIC [Organisation of Islamic Cooperation] debacle

India capitalized on the diplomatic inertia of previous PML-N [JB see] government and extended the sway of its economic diplomacy in the Gulf States and Middle East. The appointment of cronies and individuals alien to the difficult art of diplomacy pushed the country to diplomatic isolation. Playing a second fiddle role by the former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif versus his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the diplomatic front damaged the image of Pakistan even in the Islamic countries. In contrast India posted skillful diplomats in Gulf States and Middle East to strengthen bilateral relation in almost all fields. Apart from professional diplomacy, the Indian diplomats pursued public diplomacy through the Indian nationals involved in business and jobs in various companies in the Gulf countries. No such services for the country were made by the political appointees’ ..

Motley Crew of Musicians Conducts Public Diplomacy at a Very High Volume
Shawn Dorman, washdiplomat.com, March 1, 2019
On a quiet street in Oslo, the almost-famous international diplomatic band hauls their equipment out of the van to the backyard of a local couple (he’s American, she’s Norwegian) hosting a birthday bash. The sounds of rock ‘n’ roll ensue, from Norwegian classics like “Splitter Pine” to Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” to “Sunset Moose,” an original song by the one American in the band, acting U.S. Ambassador to Norway and lead guitarist Jim DeHart. Diplomatic Immunity, which released its first (and only) CD “A Foreign Affair” last June, features an all-star lineup of diplomats and friends who moonlight as musicians: Canadian Ambassador to Norway Artur Wilczynski (drummer); U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires to Norway Jim DeHart (guitarist/singer); Wilczynski’s Canadian partner, Randy Stocker (rhythm guitar/pianist); American Embassy Motor Pool Dispatcher Ørjan Tverbakk (bass player); and fitness trainer and musical t..
