Depok, West Java (ANTARA News) – The Indonesian government is expected to conduct humanitarian diplomacy in an active, free political context towards China in order to be open and provide correct information regarding the Uighur Muslim case and its peaceful resolution.
This was revealed by Farouk Abdullah Alwyni, chairman of the Bureau of Foreign Services and Public Diplomacy [JB emphasis] of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), in his written statement on Saturday.
Alwyni said Indonesia can be assertive and play an active role in helping Uighur Muslims in China to solve the problem of human rights violations that has befallen them.
According to Alwyni, Indonesia is a country, with the largest Muslim-majority population in the world, that must appear to fight for justice and world peace.
"It is necessary to fight for protection of ethnic minorities from human rights violations anywhere and become a national commitment on the basis of humanity," the candidate for the Member of the Jakarta Election District 2 of the PKS stated.
Furthermore, Alwyni noted that Indonesia`s foreign policy is free and active. The formulation in paragraph I and paragraph IV of the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution offers a strong legal basis for the Indonesian foreign policy.
Since the state constitution stipulates that Indonesia has a free and active foreign policy, the government must not lie in the shadow of other countries, regardless of the reason.
This means Indonesia must conduct itself properly in accordance with the constitutional corridor in the face of China which, in fact, invests heavily in the country.
Alwyni suspected resistance from the ethnic Uighur minority towards the Chinese government due to unjust treatment and inequality in terms of socio-cultural interests, economic and educational access, and geopolitics after the massive migration of the Han race to the Xinjiang region.
In fact, this area has been an autonomous province since 1955 and has become the province with the largest administrative region in China, with the official name of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, or XUAR.
Hence, Alwyni reiterated that the Government of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla can conduct humanitarian diplomacy towards China in a free and active political context to ensure openness and correct information is provided regarding the Uighur case to facilitate its peaceful resolution.
