Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.The EU Delegation to the United States of America in Washington DC works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 28 EU Member States. We are a full-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the U.S. government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.We offerWe offer a post of Outreach Assistant to the Press and Public Diplomacy [JB emphasis] Section . Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Outreach Assistant – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of the Press and Public Diplomacy Section for the following tasks and duties:

  • Administrative tasks such as compiling the monthly section activity report;
  • Administrative tasks such as: scheduling appointments, updating and maintaining event calendars;
  • Event support: assistance in cultural and outreach events (mailing lists, invitations, logistics, scheduling of meetings, database and website);
  • Create and send invitations; manage guest lists for events;
  • Support and preparation for EU Member States Cultural Counselors meetings;
  • Participate in meetings with various stakeholders on matters related mainly to the Delegation's Cultural and Public Diplomacy Outreach;
  • Assist the financial officer with invoice processing; registration of potential contractors;
  • Assist with research relating to publications when needed;
  • Provide suitable publications for speaking engagements;
  • Manage the database for the newsletter and guest lists; work on improvements and expansion as needed;
  • Assist with maintaining websites and social media presence for events;
  • Organizational support to officers in the section; back up to other assistants in PPD Section when needed;

We offer a competitive position in an international environment. The salary range is dependent on relevant experience, typically starting at starting at $57K (5 years' experience), $64K (10 years) and with excellent vacation, health and social insurances and retirement fund benefits.Selection CriteriaMinimum Requirements:

  • Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  • Secondary school education or equivalent;
  • 2 years' work experience in public relations or event management;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent knowledge of using digital and social media in communication;
  • Computer literate (especially Microsoft Office and proficiency in databases);
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of second EU language an advantage;
